GRUPO CENTRAL LECHERA ASTURIANA
#PARTOFTHESOLUTION

At Grupo Central Lechera Asturiana, we work to integrate environmental sustainability into all stages of our activity: from livestock farming and animal feed to industrial processing, distribution, consumption, and resource management after use.

Our comprehensive approach is articulated through collaboration between the Group’s different units, allowing us to act in a coordinated manner on impacts throughout the entire value chain.

This model allows for integrated action on the value chain, connecting the livestock origin with industrial activity and subsequent phases until consumption.

The circular economy is a key pillar of the Group’s environmental management and is articulated through a common strategy for all business units, aimed at optimizing resource use and reducing the main environmental impacts associated with our activity.

We work together with our member livestock farms to move towards a more efficient and resilient production model, aimed at reducing environmental impacts associated with primary production and ensuring the long-term viability of the farms.

This approach is developed through technical support, impact measurement, and the promotion of innovative solutions that allow for progressive improvement of environmental performance at the source.

Examples of this are alliances and collaborations with other organizations to:
huella-ambiental
Compromiso natural
biogastur
Potenciar ganaderos
Otras alianzas para mitigar el cambio climático

We work to improve the environmental efficiency of our industrial facilities, acting on the main consumptions and impacts associated with production activity: water, energy, fuels, waste, and emissions.

Given the weight of dairy activity within the Group, the main direct industrial impacts are concentrated in the CAPSA plants; therefore, improvement actions are focused mainly on this perimeter, progressively extending to the rest of the facilities.

In this context, the results achieved reflect a sustained improvement in resource efficiency:

  • At CAPSA, we have reduced fuel use by 53.3%, water consumption by 16.3%, and energy consumption by 8.6% since 2015.
  • 100% of the electricity consumed at CAPSA and Lácteas Flor de Burgos has guarantees of renewable origin, complemented by photovoltaic self-consumption solutions that reinforce the decarbonization of industrial activity.
  • We are moving towards a more circular model in waste management, with all CAPSA factories certified as Zero Waste and more than 93% of the Group’s waste recovered, favoring its reincorporation into new production cycles.

These actions are supported by the continuous improvement of processes, technological renewal, and the implementation of more efficient solutions, allowing for a progressive reduction of the environmental impact associated with industrial activity.

In addition, the Group annually calculates and verifies its Scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint in accordance with the international GHG Protocol standard. In 2025, total emissions amounted to 45,357.50 tCO₂e.

The Decarbonization Plan is applied as a priority to the CAPSA Group, which represents approximately 92% of emissions associated with energy, achieving a reduction of 51.5% compared to 2019 and moving towards the goal of 60% in 2030.

To continue advancing in this process, we promote different decarbonization levers:

  • Optimization of thermal energy processes.
  • Renewal and modernization of equipment towards more efficient solutions.
  • Resource recovery and reduction of associated consumption.
  • Electrification of processes linked to the use of renewable energy.
  • Implementation of renewable energies and self-consumption in industrial facilities.
  • Purchase of electricity with guarantees of renewable origin.

In terms of sustainable mobility, we work on improvements to reduce emissions associated with the transport of our dairy products, promoting:

  • The creation of alliances and collaborations to optimize transport routes and share cargo flows in mega-trucks, making transport more efficient and eliminating empty kilometers.
  • The use of less polluting fuels among our suppliers. In 2025, we already have 40 liquefied natural gas trucks on our transport routes and 3 LNG tankers on milk collection routes.
  • Participation in the Lean & Green initiative by AECOC, with an action plan aimed at reducing emissions in the logistics chain.

Furthermore, we share this commitment with our employees by fostering:

  • Services to reduce commuting: bus route to the workplace, carpooling, use of the canteen and dining room at our centers, and promotion of videoconferencing and teleworking for office positions.
  • The use of electric cars and bicycles with the installation of more electric charging points than required. Additionally, we have reached a collaboration agreement with the City Council of our main factory to extend the bike lane to the facilities.
We work on the eco-design of our packaging to reduce its environmental impact and move towards more circular models, optimizing resource use and facilitating recycling. We act on design to eliminate unnecessary materials, reduce weight and complexity, incorporate recycled materials when feasible, and favor the use of sustainably sourced raw materials. In this area, we highlight:
  • Use of cardboard from FSC-certified sources in 100% of the cartons.
  • Incorporation of recycled material in packaging and grouping systems, with more than 90% recycled content in cardboard and at least 50% in grouping films.
  • Substitution of materials and formats to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
  • Packaging design oriented towards effective recycling, moving towards more efficient solutions prepared for reincorporation into new production cycles, as in the case of our milk bottle, which is 100% recyclable*.
* According to UNE-EN 13430:2005. Excluding seal, adhesives, and inks.

Under our comprehensive sustainability approach, we extend our commitment throughout the value chain through participation in different initiatives:

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To promote the Circular Economy.

To Combat Climate Change.

For Sustainable Water Management.

To reduce food waste.
